Jonathan Yong Mendoza dismissed as Quintana Roo judge

Jonathan Yong Mendoza has been dismissed from his position as a criminal control judge specializing in adolescent justice in Quintana Roo, Mexico. The Judicial Discipline Tribunal of the state's Judiciary imposed the maximum penalty allowed by law, which includes his removal from office and a one-year disqualification from holding any public service positions or participating in government procurement and public works.

The decision follows an investigation into an incident on December 24 in Cancún, where Yong Mendoza was recorded physically assaulting his partner while holding a firearm. The case gained significant public attention after video footage of the assault circulated on social media, prompting demands for his removal from feminist collectives.

Prior to his judicial role, Yong Mendoza held several administrative positions in Quintana Roo, including serving as the Secretary of Public Security in Benito Juárez. His name had also previously appeared in reports regarding frozen accounts by the Financial Intelligence Unit due to alleged links to businessman Florian Tudor.
