Jongno-gu begins pedestrian safety improvements near National Folk Museum

Jongno-gu has commenced a comprehensive improvement project to enhance pedestrian safety in vulnerable areas near the main entrance of the National Folk Museum of Korea. The construction, scheduled to run from August through September, targets the Sejong-ro 1-61 area, where the lack of sidewalks has previously allowed illegal U-turns and vehicle encroachment.

The project involves constructing a new sidewalk approximately 7 to 8 meters wide and 35 meters long using 100mm thick eco-friendly materials. To prevent vehicles from entering pedestrian spaces, the district will install bollards and 20cm high curbs.

Additionally, the initiative focuses on creating a barrier-free environment for the mobility-impaired. This includes lowering sidewalk entry points and installing braille blocks to assist wheelchair users and the visually impaired. The project is funded by 150 million KRW in city subsidies and is expected to be completed by the end of September.
