Jonna Sundling reveals she competed through previous season with heel injury
Swedish cross-country skier Jonna Sundling has revealed that she competed through the entire previous season while suffering from a persistent heel injury. Despite the pain, the 31-year-old achieved significant success, including winning an Olympic gold medal in the team sprint and two silver medals in the individual sprint and relay.
Sundling explained that the injury, involving irritated bursa in the heel, began last summer following intense training during a heatwave. To manage the condition, she had to overhaul her training regimen and stop running. While she noted that the pain comes in waves and continues to bother her, she stated that it did not interfere with her competitive performance. She chose not to discuss the injury publicly at the time to avoid unnecessary attention, noting that she did not see a need to complain as her results remained strong.
