Jonny Brownlee retires from professional triathlon

British triathlon champion Jonny Brownlee has announced his retirement from professional competition at the age of 36. The six-time world champion and Olympic medalist cited a desire to prioritize his family and his 10-month-old son, Freddie, as primary reasons for the decision.

Brownlee’s decorated career includes an individual bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, an individual silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and a gold medal in the mixed relay event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He also achieved significant success in the World Triathlon Series.

A planned appearance at the Supertri Pro Series in Jersey was intended to be his farewell, but an injury has prevented him from competing in that event.
