João Fonseca drops to 40th in ATP rankings

Brazilian tennis player João Fonseca has fallen 12 positions to 40th in the ATP rankings following his decision to end his season early. Fonseca cited the need to “preserve his physical and mental health” after experiencing physical fatigue following his participation in the Davis Cup.

After finishing 2025 ranked 24th, Fonseca's 2026 season was marked by physical issues and a lack of titles. By withdrawing from the Asian swing, he was unable to defend his points from his ATP 500 Basel title.

Currently holding 1,250 points, Fonseca sits behind Belgium's Zizou Bergs. His current position places him outside the top 32 required for a seeded position at the 2027 Australian Open. He may lose an additional 50 points in the next ranking update on November 2, potentially leading to further drops in the standings.
