João Fonseca prepares for Tokyo ATP 500 return amid ranking drop

Brazilian tennis player João Fonseca has dropped to 33rd in the ATP season rankings, trailing 45 points behind Lorenzo Musetti for a spot in the top 30. Fonseca, who is currently absent from the US Open, is scheduled to return to competition at the end of September at the ATP 500 in Tokyo, Japan.

The Tokyo tournament features a highly competitive field, including Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe, and Casper Ruud. This event marks Fonseca’s first time competing in the Asian circuit. Additionally, the Tokyo tournament will serve as the professional retirement stage for former world number four Kei Nishikori.
