Cincinnati Open: Jaime Faria upsets Ben Shelton as João Fonseca advances

The Cincinnati Open ATP Masters 1000 tournament saw several notable upsets and significant performances. Portuguese qualifier Jaime Faria secured the biggest victory of his career by defeating eighth seed Ben Shelton in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Faria, ranked 79th, overcame a deficit in the second set to end Shelton's six-match winning streak.

Brazilian rising star João Fonseca advanced to the third round after defeating Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 7-6(2). With this win, the 19-year-old, currently ranked 26th, matched Gustavo Kuerten's record for the most Masters 1000 wins in a single season by a Brazilian. Fonseca is set to face Australian Christopher O'Connell in the next round.
