João Fonseca joins Brazilian Davis Cup squad for Switzerland tie

The Brazilian Tennis Confederation (CBT) has announced the squad for the upcoming Davis Cup tie against Switzerland. The roster features 20-year-old João Fonseca, who is expected to return to competition following an abdominal injury that forced him to withdraw from the US Open and the Cincinnati Masters.

Team captain Jaime Oncins confirmed Fonseca’s availability, noting that the player’s presence provides a significant boost to the team. The squad also includes singles players Gustavo Heide and Matheus Pucinelli, alongside the doubles duo of Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos, who recently secured consecutive Masters 1000 titles.

The confrontation will take place on September 18 and 19 at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro on an indoor hard court. A victory for Brazil would allow the team to advance from World Group I to the 2027 Qualifiers.
