While the biography provides new insights, it has faced criticism for factual inaccuracies regarding historical dates and geography.

Separately, scholars are highlighting how Guimarães Rosa’s literature serves as an ecological record of the Cerrado biome. Research by Professor Mônica Meyer suggests that the author’s 1952 travels through Minas Gerais provided a detailed inventory of the region. His works, including ‘Corpo de Baile’, treat the Cerrado not merely as a setting but as a central character, documenting environmental shifts and the early impacts of industrialization and deforestation in the area.
