João Henriques appointed Nacional head coach

João Henriques has been named the new head coach of Nacional, marking the third managerial change for the club during the 2026/27 season. Club president Rui Alves confirmed the appointment, which follows the departure of Alexandre Santos.

Santos was dismissed after losing four consecutive matches, a period that included an elimination from the Taça de Portugal by Sanjoanense. Henriques, 53, returns to Madeira after previously managing Marítimo in the 2022/23 season. His professional background includes coaching stints at AVS, Paços de Ferreira, Santa Clara, Vitória de Guimarães, and Moreirense.

Nacional currently sits in 16th place in the Liga Betclic with four points. The team is scheduled to face Sporting de Braga this Sunday.
