João Marinho Neto, recognized as the world's oldest man, celebrated his 114th birthday with a ceremony in Apuiarés, Ceará. The event, held on October 10, brought together family members, local authorities, and representatives from the LongeviQuest research group, which assists in certifying supercentenarians.
Neto, a farmer who currently resides in a care facility due to vision loss, was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest man in the world in November 2024 at age 112. His eldest son, 81-year-old Antônio Arilo Marinho, traveled over 3,000 kilometers from São Paulo to attend the celebration.
Neto's family includes six living children, 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Regarding his lifestyle, his caregivers report a balanced diet, though he also enjoys traditional foods such as coffee, rapadura, and free-range chicken. At 114, he recently exchanged greetings with Ken Weeks of Australia, the world's second oldest man, who is 113.
