João Monlevade closes major intersection due to traffic signal failure
A major traffic signal at the intersection of Wilson Alvarenga Avenue and Duque de Caxias Street in João Monlevade remains non-functional, leading local authorities to close the intersection to prevent accidents. The equipment has been malfunctioning since early August, initially operating intermittently before failing completely.
The municipal government stated that it has initiated procedures to resolve the issue through a bidding exemption process to hire a specialized company for diagnosis and repair. Once the contract is formalized and the service order is issued, the company will have up to five days to execute the necessary technical services.
Drivers are currently advised to use Getúlio Vargas Avenue and specific turnaround points near Comercial Monlevade to navigate the area. The ongoing disruption has prompted complaints from residents and inquiries from city council members.
