João Monlevade Council approves sanitation agency protocol update
The João Monlevade City Council has approved the first reading of Bill No. 1.665/2026, which updates the protocol for the Intermunicipal Basic Sanitation Agency of Minas Gerais (ARISB-MG). The project aims to modernize the agency's administrative structure, governance, and social participation mechanisms.
The update aligns the agency with the New Legal Framework for Sanitation and the reference standards of the National Water and Basic Sanitation Agency (ANA). Additionally, the bill provides for the creation of eight positions for Inspection and Regulation Technicians to monitor water and sewage systems, though hiring will depend on future budget availability.
According to ARISB-MG, these changes will not impact residents' water bills or increase costs for the City Hall. The agency is funded by a regulation and inspection fee paid by service providers, such as DAE, which will remain unchanged.
