João Pessoa arrests three in integrated crackdown on illegal waste dumping

The municipal Secretariat of Urban Security and Citizenship in João Pessoa coordinated an integrated operation with the Environment Secretariat, the Special Municipal Urban Cleaning Authority and the Urban Mobility Superintendency to stop illegal disposal of waste and debris. Using Smart City cameras and intelligence teams, authorities seized vehicles and arrested three suspects caught dumping debris in a protected area of the Gramame neighborhood on March 8.

Earlier, on March 6, two separate flagrante incidents led to the seizure of a vehicle and the arrest of its driver in Mangabeira. Secretary João Almeida said, “We started this operation on Monday, but the planning began much earlier,” and emphasized a “zero‑tolerance” policy, adding, “João Pessoa has intensified its enforcement actions to protect the environment and public health.” The operation underscores the city’s commitment to enforce environmental law and maintain urban cleanliness.
