João Pessoa city hall urges vaccination for urban cleaning workers

The municipal government of João Pessoa, Brazil, has issued a public health advisory urging urban cleaning staff and waste recyclers to keep all recommended vaccinations current. Fernando Virgolino, the city’s immunisation coordinator, highlighted the partnership with the waste‑management entity Emlur and the annual preventive activities they conduct. The guidance stresses the importance of vaccines against hepatitis B, tetanus, diphtheria, influenza and COVID‑19 to protect workers from occupational exposure to biological hazards. Virgolino added that immunisation should be combined with proper use of personal protective equipment, hand hygiene and adherence to safety regulations. The advisory also outlines correct waste‑segregation and disposal practices to reduce injury and disease risk for cleaning crews.
