João Pessoa completes hole‑filling in 47 neighborhoods, opens first Ecoponto
The João Pessoa municipal government wrapped up a week‑long "tapa‑buraco" operation, repairing potholes and cleaning drainage galleries in 47 neighborhoods across the city. Crews from the Secretariat of Infrastructure (Seinfra) worked in areas such as Centro, Manaíra, Cabo Branco and Valentina Figueiredo, also extending and maintaining storm‑drain outlets to reduce flooding.
On Thursday, Mayor Leo Bezerra inaugurated the city’s first Ecoponto in the Valentina Figueiredo district. The recycling drop‑off point pays residents immediately via Pix for materials such as cardboard, glass, aluminum and PET, offering rates 30‑40% above market prices. The initiative, developed with the municipal cleaning agency (Emlur) and the private firm Orizon, aims to boost recycling, generate income for citizens and eliminate middlemen. Five Ecopontos are planned for the capital by year‑end.
