João Pessoa consumer agency reports major price gaps in household soaps

The Municipal Consumer Protection Secretariat of João Pessoa (Procon‑JP) surveyed prices of cleaning and personal‑hygiene products in 14 supermarkets on 27 April. The study covered 62 items, ranging from toothpaste and soap to toilet paper and detergents.

The largest price differences were recorded for soaps. Omo powder 1.6 kg showed a R$ 21.01 spread (R$ 18.98 at Mateus – Altiplano to R$ 39.99 at Latorre – Torre), a 170.70 % variation. Omo liquid 3 L varied by R$ 21.00 (R$ 29.99 at Menor Preço – Bairro dos Estados to R$ 50.99 at SuperFácil – Água Fria), a 70.02 % gap. Tixan Ypê liquid 3 L differed by R$ 15.00 (R$ 23.49 at Mateus – Altiplano to R$ 38.49 at Latorre – Torre), a 63.86 % swing.

The agency also compared the data with a previous survey from 4 May, highlighting large variations in toothpaste prices. The list of visited stores includes Assaí Atacadista, Atacadão, Super Box Brasil, Mateus, O Cestão, Rede Compras, Menor Preço, Latorre, Manaíra, São João, Varejão, Bemais, and Mendonça.
