João Pessoa council proposes naming new linear park after José Carlos da Silva Júnior

The João Pessoa City Council received a bill on 4 April to name the newly built linear park on Avenida Hilton Souto Maior after businessman José Carlos da Silva Júnior. The park, located between the José Américo and Mangabeira neighborhoods, would be officially called “Parque Empresário José Carlos da Silva Júnior.” The proposal, authored by councilor Marcos Vinícius Nóbrega (PDT) and signed by 29 other councilors, coincides with the centennial of Silva Júnior’s birth in June 2024. He is recognized as the founder of Grupo São Braz and the Rede Paraíba de Comunicação and for his contributions to the state’s industry and public life.

The bill requires committee review before plenary voting; if approved, the executive branch will install a plaque and register the park, after which it will be sent to mayor Léo Bezerra for final approval. The council’s justification states, “Nada mais justo que homenagear o empresário José Carlos da Silva Júnior por sua contribuição para o fortalecimento da indústria…”.
