Brazil prepares tests to increase ethanol concentration in gasoline to 35%

The Brazilian government is preparing technical tests to evaluate increasing the anhydrous ethanol concentration in gasoline to 35%, known as E35. This initiative, part of the Future Fuel Law, follows recommendations from the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) to address previous gaps in testing regarding consumption, emissions, and material durability. The Ministry of Mines and Energy is expected to formalize the testing plan, with results later reviewed by the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE).

In regional fuel markets, ethanol prices in Acre saw a 1.98% decrease to an average of R$ 4.96 per liter, though the state recorded the highest single price for ethanol in Brazil at R$ 6.50. Despite the high cost, the price remains competitive against gasoline in the region.

In João Pessoa, a Procon-JP survey indicates that ethanol prices dropped by R$ 0.16, reaching an average of R$ 4.29. Meanwhile, common gasoline prices in the capital have remained stable for five weeks, ranging between R$ 6.18 and R$ 6.69.
