João Pessoa Health Secretariat updates birth and death certificate requests

The Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS) of João Pessoa has issued new guidelines for citizens requesting copies of Death Declarations (DO) or Live Birth Declarations (DNV). To obtain these documents, individuals must visit the Protocol sector of the SMS located on Avenida Júlia Freire in the Torre neighborhood.

Applicants are required to present a copy of a valid identification document, such as a professional ID or a National Driver's License (CNH). In cases where identification has been lost, a copy of a police report (BO) must be provided. Additionally, applicants must supply the exact date and location of the birth or death—specifying if it occurred at home, in a hospital, or a maternity ward—along with a residential address and valid contact information.

According to Danielle Melo, manager of Epidemiological Surveillance, the standardized process via the 1Doc system aims to make access to these documents more organized, secure, and agile while ensuring data protection.
