João Pessoa installs new mosquito larvicide dissemination station

The City Hall of João Pessoa has installed its first Larvicide Disseminating Station (EDL) in the Jardim Veneza neighborhood. This new technology, implemented by the Municipal Health Secretariat, utilizes the natural behavior of female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes to transport larvicide directly to potential breeding sites, aiding in the fight against dengue, zika, and chikungunya.

The initiative is part of a broader mosquito control strategy supported by the Ministry of Health, which is providing over 800 EDLs to the municipality. The rollout began in Sanitary District I and will expand to other strategic locations across the capital based on environmental surveillance mapping.

Currently, the city's monitoring efforts include 625 ovitraps distributed throughout the municipality to track mosquito presence and egg-laying patterns. The first station was specifically placed at an industrial scrapyard on Rua José Lourenço Pereira.
