João Pessoa launches 441st Festa das Neves, mayor highlights faith and culture
The 441st edition of the traditional Festa das Neves was officially opened on Sunday, 26 May, with a solemn mass presided over by Archbishop Dom Manoel Delson at the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Snows in João Pessoa’s historic centre. Mayor Leo Bezerra attended, representing the mayors of Paraíba, and said the festival is a key symbol of the city’s cultural and spiritual identity. He pledged municipal support for preserving traditions, faith and historic heritage while inviting residents to the upcoming religious and cultural program marking the capital’s anniversary.
The 2026 edition’s theme is “Our Lady of the Snows, Augusta Queen of Heaven, sovereign of angels” with the motto “A great sign appeared in the sky.” The programme includes concerts by Banda 5 de Agosto, Roupa Nova and Fábio Jr., as well as activities by the Instituto Hesed and other community events throughout the city.
