João Pessoa launches app for tree pruning and removal services
The municipality of João Pessoa, Brazil, has made available the mobile application “João Pessoa na Palma da Mão” and the online platform “Prefeitura Conectada” for residents to request municipal tree services. Users can ask for routine pruning, collection of trunks and large debris, or fragmentation and removal of fallen trees that block streets, sidewalks or pose safety risks.
Requests are processed by the Secretariat of Urban Development (Sedurb), which handles roughly 370 such requests each month. The service is coordinated with the Secretariat of Environment (Semam) for technical assessments, the Municipal Cleaning Authority (Emlur) for collection and disposal, and Energisa Paraíba when tree limbs interfere with power lines. For fallen trees, citizens must submit photos, address and reference points through the app. The application guides users through login, category selection, form completion and submission, after which a protocol number is generated.
The initiative aims to streamline urban maintenance, improve public safety and ensure proper disposal of green waste across the city.
