João Pessoa expands road‑repair “Operação Tapa‑Buraco” to 48 neighborhoods
The João Pessoa city government, through the Secretariat of Infrastructure (Seinfra), continued its “Operação Tapa‑Buraco” this week, carrying out pothole repairs, drainage‑gallery cleaning and street‑lighting maintenance in 48 neighbourhoods across the capital. Daily teams from the Directorate of Road and Drainage Maintenance address citizen requests submitted via the “João Pessoa na Palma da Mão” mobile app.
Mayor Leo Bezerra highlighted the use of artificial‑intelligence tools that map pavement defects and prioritize interventions. Fourteen field crews handle between 150 and 200 repairs each day, and the agency is testing a new asphalt mix that can be applied on wet surfaces to keep work ongoing during rain.
The operation aims to improve traffic safety, reduce flooding from clogged drainage, and provide a faster response channel for residents’ complaints.
