João Pessoa launches citywide school‑bus safety inspections

The Superintendência Executiva de Mobilidade Urbana of João Pessoa (Semób‑JP) began a compulsory inspection of all school‑transport vehicles on Monday, 6 July 2026. A total of 435 registered buses will be examined through 31 July under the requirements of Article 136 of Brazil’s Traffic Code and the municipal transport regulations.

Inspections are being carried out at the Semób‑JP office on km 25 of BR‑230 in the Cristo Redentor district, from 08:00 to 13:00. Inspectors check around 40 safety and equipment items, including lights, seat belts, fire extinguishers, brakes and documentation such as driver licences and vehicle registration. The fee for the inspection is R$ 107.74, with a R$ 40.40 fine for missed deadlines. Vehicles that fail must correct deficiencies immediately or lose the right to operate.

Approved buses receive a grey adhesive seal on the windshield. Operators are required to submit renewal documents through the municipal 1Doc platform. Semób‑JP officials Marcílio do HBE and Leonardo Campos stressed the importance of the inspections for student safety and urged parents to verify the status of transport providers.
