João Pessoa launches Week of Family Agriculture with fairs and health services
The municipal government of João Pessoa is holding the Week of Family Agriculture from July 20‑24, organized by the Secretariat of Economic Development and Labour (Sedest) under the “Eu Posso Semear” program. The event aims to strengthen sustainable rural production, improve food security and generate income for local farming families. Secretary Bruno Farias said, “A Semana da Agricultura Familiar reforça o compromisso da Prefeitura de João Pessoa com o fortalecimento da produção rural sustentável e com a valorização de quem produz alimentos saudáveis para a nossa população.”
Activities include agro‑ecological fairs featuring 100 % organic produce, on‑site medical, dental and veterinary services, and educational workshops. The schedule covers several locations: a market in the Altiplano neighbourhood on Tuesday, a fair at Parque Parahyba I in Jardim Oceania on Wednesday, and a “Festa no Campo” at Sítio Ponta de Gramame on Thursday‑Friday with health consultations and a mobile dental unit. Agronomist Adriano Vasconcelos highlighted the city’s productive capacity, noting, “Muitos não sabem que nossa cidade possui uma expressiva área produtiva, capaz de oferecer alimentos frescos, saudáveis, de boa qualidade, oriundos de sistemas de produção sustentáveis.”
