João Pessoa launches free barber course for 20 youths

The municipal government of João Pessoa, through the Secretaria de Juventude, Esporte e Recreação (Sejer), started a free barber training program on July 4. The two‑month course enrolls 20 young participants, who attend classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The curriculum combines roughly 90 % practical instruction with 10 % theory, covering haircut techniques, equipment maintenance, client service and barbershop styles. Servilio de Holanda, a barber with experience since 2011, conducts the training.

Secretary of Youth, Sport and Recreation Joãozinho Neto said the initiative aims to offer real opportunities for qualification, employment or entrepreneurship. Sejer director Clizaldo Maroja described the course as a tool for social inclusion and income generation, reinforcing the municipality's commitment to youth development.
