João Pessoa launches free French film weekend at Cinema Passeio
The newly opened public cinema Cinema Passeio in João Pessoa, Brazil, will host a free weekend showcase of French cinema from Friday, 24 July to Sunday, 26 July, with screenings at 16:00 and 19:00. The programme features the films “Hiroshima meu amor” and “Os olhos sem rosto” (Les yeux sans visage) as part of a cultural partnership with the French Embassy, the French Institute and the Alliance Française.
The venue, created by the municipal cultural foundation Funjope in cooperation with Brazil’s Ministry of Culture, aims to attract both youth and adult audiences and will include public debates on the influence of French cinema in the city and the wider state of Paraíba. Executive director Marcus Alves highlighted the event as a tribute to the historic impact of French film on local audiovisual professionals and on João Pessoa’s cultural tourism.
All screenings are free of charge and represent an effort to foster audience development and international cultural exchange in the city.
