João Pessoa expands road repairs, health conference and anti‑violence programmes

The João Pessoa municipal government carried out a series of public‑service actions in early June 2024. The city's Infrastructure Secretariat (Seinfra) continued its daily “tapa‑buraco” operation, performing road‑way, drainage‑system cleaning and street‑lighting maintenance in 38 neighbourhoods, responding to citizen requests submitted via the “João Pessoa na Palma da Mão” app.

The Municipal Health Council opened the 11th Municipal Health Conference (COMSAÚDEJP) with the theme “Saúde, Democracia, Soberania e SUS: cuidar do povo é cuidar do Brasil,” discussing proposals to strengthen the public‑health system and electing delegates for state‑level meetings.

The Secretariat of Public Policies for Women organized the “Por elas – no Enfrentamento à Violência” event, featuring talks and a round‑table on domestic‑violence prevention, while the Municipal Health Department hosted a forum on violence against the elderly, highlighting psychological abuse and offering resources for reporting.

From 8 to 12 June the city held a Municipal Immunisation Week, offering vaccines against dengue, COVID‑19, HPV, RSV and influenza at fixed sites and mobile points, with active outreach by health‑family teams.

The city’s Human Rights and Citizenship Secretariat certified about 45 seniors who completed the “Digital para Todos” course, teaching basic smartphone and internet skills, and opened two new classes for around 60 additional participants.
