João Pessoa establishes permanent Black Artists Fair
The Black Artists Fair (Feira de Artistas Pretas e Pretos) has become a permanent weekly event in the Historic Center of João Pessoa, Brazil. Held every Saturday starting at 3:00 p.m. on Avenida General Osório, the initiative features 41 participants across 10 stalls offering ethnic artisanal products, accessories, and gastronomy.
The fair is a collaborative effort between the João Pessoa Cultural Foundation (Funjope) and the Black movement, specifically through the Feira Preta Dudú It Adajo Aworan (PB). According to Funjope executive director Marcus Alves, the event is part of a broader municipal strategy to restore and revitalize the Historic Center through permanent cultural activities, generating income and work for the local community.
Curator Fátima Sousa noted that while the partnership previously hosted occasional events, the transition to a permanent weekly schedule aims to meet high public demand and celebrate Black identity.
