João Pessoa launches youth Futebol Travinha tournament

The municipality of João Pessoa, through its Secretariat of Youth, Sports and Recreation (Sejer), will hold a Futebol Travinha tournament for children and adolescents aged 12 to 15 during August. The competition features two age categories (12‑13 and 14‑15), with six‑player teams playing 20‑minute matches split into two 10‑minute halves.

Matches are scheduled for 8, 15, 22 and 29 August, and the final will take place on 12 September. The event is organized in partnership with the Brazilian Federation of Travinha and aims to encourage sport participation, foster community integration, and promote values such as respect, friendship and teamwork. Mayor Leo Bezerra and Sejer secretary Joãozinho Neto highlighted the tournament as part of the city’s effort to provide safe, inclusive recreation for young people. Prizes, including trophies and medals, will be awarded to standout participants. Registrations are open throughout August at Sejer offices and Youth Reference Centers.
