João Pessoa adds weekly hip‑hop and chorinho shows to Praça Rio Branco

Mayor Leo Bezerra of João Pessoa met with representatives of the Batalha do Beco collective and announced municipal backing for a new Saturday cultural program at Praça Rio Branco. The city will provide sound, lighting, cleaning and security services so that both chorinho and hip‑hop performances can be held weekly, following the existing “Sabadinho Bom” series.

The initiative marks the first time that hip‑hop battles receive formal institutional support in the capital, with the mayor saying, “Convido a todos para o próximo sábado, na Praça Rio Branco, onde ocorrerá a inauguração da Batalha do Beco, com o nosso apoio, para valorizar ainda mais as expressões musicais e artísticas na nossa cidade.” The program aims to strengthen the historic centre’s cultural scene and broaden access to live music for residents.
