João Pessoa cuts environmental violation reports in first half of 2026

The Municipal Environmental Inspection Division (Difi) of João Pessoa recorded 1,081 environmental infractions from January to June 2026, a drop from 1,547 cases in the same period of 2025. Noise pollution remained the top issue with 410 complaints, down from 736 a year earlier. Reports of noisy construction rose to 97 from 43, while sewage discharge complaints fell to 191 from 208. In contrast, complaints about water service and effluent discharge increased to 76 from 23. Deforestation reports fell to 15 from 25 and atmospheric pollution cases fell to one from six. Secretary of the Environment Welison Silveira highlighted the division’s role in inspecting, advising and enforcing municipal environmental law, and noted that citizens can file reports via the Acácia chatbot, WhatsApp line, the “João Pessoa na Palma da Mão” app, or the city’s service portal.
