João Pessoa partners with Anatel for TV emergency alerts

The City Hall of João Pessoa has announced a partnership with the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to implement an emergency alert system via television and radio. Following the implementation of Smart City camera monitoring, the municipality aims to use this new technology to broadcast urgent signals to the population.

Mayor Leo Bezerra presented the experimental system during a meeting with local broadcasters and Anatel counselor Vinícius Caran. The initiative is intended to cover various emergency scenarios, including climate events, public health issues, security concerns, and civil defense matters. The system will be integrated with Civil Defense and shared with all local communication vehicles to ensure rapid response and information dissemination.

The technology was demonstrated using a system developed by the Digital Video Applications Laboratory (Lavid) at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). The next phase involves conducting tests with local radio and TV stations, pending official approval from Anatel.
