João Pessoa ramps up urban cleaning across Bairro dos Novais and surrounding neighborhoods
The municipal government of João Pessoa, through the Special Municipal Urban Cleaning Agency (Emlur), launched a large‑scale cleaning operation on Friday, 10th. Teams were deployed for mowing, trimming and waste removal in several districts.
The principal focus was the Bairro dos Novais, with additional work in Tambaú, Penha, Seixas, Bessa, the Beira‑Rio and Castelo‑Branco avenues, and debris removal in Varjão. Emlur superintendant Ricardo Veloso said the actions are part of a permanent plan to keep streets, squares and other public areas clean, stating, "Our work is daily and planned to serve all regions of the city. The teams are on the streets every day performing mowing, trimming, sweeping and waste removal, improving quality of life for the population."
Emlur also called on residents to dispose of waste correctly, warning that irregular dumping harms the environment, creates critical litter points and raises municipal costs.
