João Pessoa restores waste collection after truck breakdowns

The municipal waste authority (Emlur) in João Pessoa is working to normalize household garbage collection after five of the Inovar company’s compaction trucks broke down. Superintendent Ricardo Veloso inspected the operation on Wednesday, confirming the trucks’ release and monitoring routes in neighborhoods such as Bessa, Manaíra and Cabo Branco. Mayor Leo Bezerra met with Veloso to discuss the contract with Inovar and said a decision on the company’s future will be announced within days. In the meantime, additional dump‑truck units have been deployed to keep collection on schedule and reduce the buildup of waste on public streets.

The effort aims to have all routes regularized by the end of the day, with officials urging residents to remain patient while the service returns to full operation.
