João Pessoa Sanitary Surveillance warns of extortion scams
The Sanitary Surveillance agency of João Pessoa has issued an alert regarding fraudulent activities targeting local businesses and citizens. Bad actors are impersonating public officials to extort money under the guise of sanitary inspection fees.
According to Victor Viana, manager of the agency, scammers have been contacting establishments claiming that a complaint has been filed. They threaten joint enforcement actions involving agencies such as Procon, the Public Ministry, and the police, demanding an advance payment of R$ 800 to avoid inspections or penalties.
The agency emphasized that no official contact is made via WhatsApp or telephone and that staff members do not have the authority to contact regulated sectors directly for payments. All official communications are conducted through the established channels of the João Pessoa City Hall.
