João Pessoa students and cultural institutions achieve regional recognition

Students and cultural institutions in João Pessoa, Paraíba, have achieved several notable recognitions in arts and science.

In the field of cinema, the short film ‘Irmão Negro’, produced by the Escola Municipal Presidente João Pessoa, won first place in the ‘Best Actor’ category at the Curta 5 – Festival Estudantil de Curtas in Bahia. The award was given to 11-year-old student José Murillo do Nascimento Sales. The project originated from the ‘Projeto Ler Mais’ reading initiative, which aimed to use literature to foster student engagement and social awareness regarding racial prejudice and inclusion.

In science and technology, the BIG HERO team from Escola Municipal Frei Afonso secured first place in the state stage of the Brazilian Robotics Olympiad (OBR) in the Rescue Level 1 category. This victory qualifies the team for the national stage scheduled for November. Other municipal schools also received awards for innovation, robustness, and dedication.

Additionally, the Estação Cabo Branco will host the collective art exhibition ‘Três Mastros’. Curated by Rodrigues Lima, the exhibition features works by Raphael Vidal, Rodrigo Ferreira, and Toni Farias, focusing on themes of memory, social engagement, and daily life.
