João Pessoa sees two fatal shootings in separate incidents
A businessman was shot dead while confronting armed robbers during a robbery at a cellphone shop in the José Américo neighbourhood of João Pessoa on Thursday. Security footage showed the owner drawing a weapon before being fatally shot; police later arrested one suspect and seized the getaway vehicle.
The following night, two cousins were killed by gunfire in a coordinated assault on neighbouring houses in the Cristo Redentor community of João Pessoa. The attackers entered each residence, firing multiple rounds that struck the victims in the head. No arrests have been made and investigators are still determining a motive, though one of the victims reportedly had a police record.
Both incidents are under investigation by the local Civil Police, which has not yet disclosed further details on the suspects or any broader pattern.
