João Victor Gonçalves stars in Globo telenovela ‘Quem Ama Cuida’

Actor João Victor Gonçalves is making his debut in the Globo telenovela ‘Quem Ama Cuida’, portraying the character Mau Mau. The role follows a young man discovering his sexuality while facing a lack of acceptance from his grandfather.

Gonçalves, who has a background in theater and previously appeared in Disney+’s ‘Mila no multiverso’, discussed the importance of avoiding stereotypes in prime-time television. He noted that LGBTQ+ characters have historically been relegated to comic relief, whereas his character aims for a more nuanced portrayal of masculinity and self-discovery.

In the upcoming plot developments, the romance between Mau Mau and the character Felipe, played by Pietro Antonelli, will reach a milestone with their first kiss. The scene is set to be accompanied by the song ‘Preciso Dizer Que Te Amo’ by Cazuza, Bebel Gilberto, and Dé Palmeira.
