Jordan and China call for Gaza ceasefire and maritime stability

Following discussions between King Abdullah II of Jordan and President Xi Jinping in Beijing, Jordan and China issued a joint statement emphasizing the necessity of a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The two nations called for the immediate, unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid and stressed that any future arrangements in Gaza must ensure Palestinian self-governance while maintaining the unity of the West Bank and Gaza.

The leaders expressed deep concern regarding Israeli escalations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, specifically citing settler violence, land seizures, and settlement expansion. They reaffirmed that the two-state solution, based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital, remains the only path to lasting peace. Both parties also emphasized the importance of supporting UNRWA and granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations.

Regarding regional maritime security, the joint statement highlighted the importance of restoring normal navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a vital international corridor for energy and goods. The two countries also called for adherence to a ceasefire between the United States and Iran to resolve regional tensions through diplomacy and dialogue, while stressing respect for national sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
