ShinyHunters hacker Saif al-Din Khader detained in Jordan

Saif al-Din Khader, a suspected core member of the ShinyHunters hacking group known online as ‘Rey’, has been detained in Jordan. Reports indicate that Khader is cooperating with the FBI and international law enforcement by providing access to his electronic devices and digital communications to help identify other members of the collective.

The arrest follows a major cyberattack on the FBI’s recruitment portal, which the group claimed resulted in the theft of 2 to 3 terabytes of data. While the group asserted they obtained information on nearly all FBI employees, technical analysis of a data sample revealed the exposure of sensitive personally identifiable information (PII) for approximately 12,000 applicants, including job roles, medical, and psychiatric records.

This development follows previous law enforcement actions, including the arrest of Pepijn van der Stap in the Netherlands. Jordanian authorities have reportedly initiated extradition proceedings to transfer Khader to the United States.
