Jordan Cox scores maiden Test fifty at Headingley

Jordan Cox recorded his maiden Test half-century, scoring 73 runs off 100 deliveries during the first Test between England and Pakistan at Headingley. Batting at number three in only his second Test appearance, Cox helped steady the innings following an early loss of wickets, forming a 150-run partnership with Joe Root.

His performance contributed to England reaching 366 for eight, establishing a 195-run lead over Pakistan. Other notable contributors included Harry Brook with 91, Joe Root with 66, and Dan Lawrence with 51. Former England captain Michael Vaughan praised Cox’s composure and technique, comparing his shot-making to that of AB de Villiers.

This breakthrough follows a series of setbacks for Cox, including a thumb injury in late 2024 that prevented a scheduled debut. Cox noted that while he aimed for a century, he viewed the innings as a way to ‘bang down’ the door for future opportunities.
