Jordan Devey’s Death Highlights NFL Mental Health Concerns

Jordan Devey, a 38‑year‑old former NFL offensive lineman and Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, died by suicide in Idaho. His wife, Lindsey Devey, discovered him and performed CPR before he was declared brain dead, allowing his organs to be donated.

Devey’s parents, Leslie and Kerry Devey, say they suspect chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) – a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head trauma – may have contributed to his mental‑health struggles. Because the condition can only be diagnosed post‑mortem, they cannot obtain a definitive answer. The family and community have called for greater awareness of mental‑health issues among current and former athletes and urge people in distress to seek help.
