Jordan Foreign Minister Ayman Al‑Safadi warns Israel of escalating threats to Jerusalem’s holy sites
Jordan’s foreign minister and deputy prime minister for foreign affairs, Ayman Al‑Safadi, said Israel is targeting the identity, history, present and future of Jerusalem and consolidating its illegal occupation. He warned that settlement expansion, land confiscation and restrictions on Muslim and Christian worship at the Al‑Aqsa Mosque and other holy sites could spark a wider religious conflict with regional and global repercussions. Speaking at an Arab foreign ministers’ meeting in Amman, Al‑Safadi stressed that Jerusalem remains occupied territory and that any Israeli actions violate international law. He called for coordinated international pressure to protect the city’s sacred places and urged the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital as the only path to a just and lasting peace.
