Jordan freezes fuel prices for September despite rising global oil costs

The Jordanian government has decided to freeze fuel prices for September at the same levels maintained in August. This decision comes despite a rise in global crude oil and petroleum derivative prices, particularly diesel and kerosene, driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the pricing committee set the price for 90-octane gasoline at 1,000 fils per liter, 95-octane gasoline at 1,310 fils per liter, diesel at 850 fils per liter, and kerosene at 550 fils per liter. The price for a 12.5 kg domestic gas cylinder remains fixed at 7 dinars. To support the industrial sector, the government will continue providing LPG subsidies amounting to approximately 1.6 million dinars.

Energy expert Hashim Aqel noted that the government is absorbing the price differences to alleviate pressure on citizens and the national budget. He warned that global diesel markets face pressure due to supply shortages and that seasonal demand for heating fuels like diesel and gas is expected to rise during the upcoming winter months. Aqel also highlighted that geopolitical instability and tensions affecting the Strait of Hormuz continue to impact global energy supply movements.
