Jordan hosts regional training on AI in election management

A three-day regional training program titled ‘Artificial Intelligence in Election Management’ has commenced in Amman, Jordan. Organized by the Independent Election Commission in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the event aims to explore how AI can enhance electoral processes.

Participants include representatives from election administrations in Tunisia, Palestine, Libya, Iraq, and Mexico, alongside experts in digital transformation. Musa Al-Maaitah, Chairman of the Independent Election Commission, stated that AI serves as an opportunity to improve efficiency and data analysis, planning, and voter services. He emphasized that technology should act as a support tool for humans and institutions rather than a replacement.

Al-Maaitah also highlighted critical challenges associated with AI integration, including data protection, privacy, cybersecurity, transparency, and accountability. The program seeks to ensure that the use of these technologies is conducted responsibly to maintain public trust in the electoral process.
