Jordan inter-governorate public transport demand doubles with university reopening
The resumption of university classes has led to a 103% increase in demand for regular public transportation services connecting various governorates. A comparison of operational data between the second and third weeks of September (during university holidays) and the same period in October (during university terms) shows passenger numbers rose from 99,414 to 202,133.
Daily averages increased from approximately 9,900 to over 20,200 passengers, with a peak of 27,292 passengers recorded on October 18. To meet this demand, the number of completed trips across twelve project lines increased by 38%, rising from 7,840 to 10,787 trips.
Significant growth was observed on specific routes, notably the Mafraq–Zarqa line, which saw passengers increase from 4,503 to 46,042, largely serving Al al-Bayt University students. Other notable increases included the Jerash–Irbid route (up 423%) and the Jerash–Mafraq route (up 333%). In the south, the Tafilah route saw a 168% increase, while the Ma'an route rose by 102%.
