Jordan launches AI digital spokesperson ‘Farah’

The Jordanian government has launched ‘Farah’, an artificial intelligence-powered digital spokesperson designed to enhance official communication with citizens, the media, and researchers. Announced by the Minister of Government Communication, Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani, the service aims to provide rapid, interactive access to information regarding government decisions, policies, and official data.

By utilizing AI, the government seeks to bridge the time gap between the issuance of official information and its public dissemination, specifically to combat misinformation and rumors on social media. The service includes an English-language version intended for international media and global investment conferences.

While the initiative has gained significant public attention, it has also raised concerns regarding digital identity and impersonation. Observers have noted the emergence of AI-generated content using the ‘Farah’ persona for commercial purposes and jokes. This has prompted calls for clear regulations to ensure the public can distinguish between official government communications and fabricated content to prevent the spread of false news regarding taxes, prices, or public policies.
