Jordan Stephens challenges double standard regarding queer spaces
Musician and actor Jordan Stephens recently addressed a perceived double standard regarding sexualization and queer spaces during an appearance on the ‘Miss Me?’ podcast with co-host Miquita Oliver.
Stephens recounted an encounter in a gym sauna where he overheard a man expressing discomfort in gay bars, stating he could not relax because he did not know what gay men were thinking. Stephens challenged this sentiment by pointing out the inconsistency of being uncomfortable with the idea of being sexualized while simultaneously participating in straight spaces where women are often subjected to similar treatment.
Describing queer venues such as Dalston Superstore and The Divine as environments where he feels a sense of freedom and joy, Stephens noted that these spaces often feel less aggressive than traditional nightlife settings. He emphasized that creating environments where people do not have to worry about being judged is a collective responsibility.
